KOTA KINABALU: The Coroner’s Court maintained its order barring media from the courtroom during child witness testimonies in the inquest into Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death.
Counsel Shahlan Jufri said the coroner’s decision followed instructions from headquarters.
“The coroner has decided this because the deponents are children, and they must be protected,” he said.
He noted most lawyers supported media access, except those representing Zara’s father.
Counsel Joan Goh also backed coverage, saying, “We want responsible reporting so the public gets accurate news, instead of unverified information that can fuel speculation.”
