Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner's Court and interested parties spent four hours on Monday revisiting the school hostel where 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir was found unconscious in July 2025.
Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan conducted the second locus in quo from 10am to 2pm, accompanied by conducting officers, counsel representing Zara's parents, lawyers for five children charged in the Court for Children, and several deponents including students and teachers.
Zara was found unconscious beneath her hostel building on July 16, 2025, died the following day in hospital, and had her remains exhumed on Aug 9 for a post-mortem examination at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Department of Forensic Medicine on Aug 10.
On Aug 20, 2025, five minors, identified by the pseudonyms Student A, B, C, D, and E, were charged with using insulting words against Zara.
About 80 deponents comprising experts, teachers, police, students, and parents have testified so far, with the inquest scheduled to resume on Tuesday when Zara's stepsister will take the stand as the 81st witness.
