THE Sessions Court has fixed 25 August for the commencement of the corruption trial involving Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Syaed Mohamad, former political secretary to former Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is facing three charges of receiving bribes amounting to RM350,000.
Judge Rosli Ahmad confirmed the trial will run from 25 to 28 August and instructed the defence to submit its statement to the prosecution by 22 August.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Hazel Tan Jia Qi informed the court that the prosecution had submitted its witness statements on 31 July. Defence counsel Md Yunos Shariff told the court that the defence would file its statement under Section 62 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 before the trial begins.
On 23 May, Sayed Amir Muzzakkir, 43, was charged with accepting RM350,000 in bribes from Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof, Managing Director of Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd. The sum was allegedly given as a reward for helping the company secure a tender worth RM381.1 million for the supply and maintenance of infrastructure equipment, servers, software and user radios under the RMPNet system for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The offences were allegedly committed at Solaris Dutamas on 4 and 16 December 2020.
He was also charged the following day at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with soliciting RM350,000 from the same individual for the same purpose, this time at the Nexuscorp office in Section 7, Shah Alam, in early December 2020.
All charges were filed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and are punishable under Section 24(1) of the same act, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of no less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
The Shah Alam case has since been transferred to the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur to be heard jointly. - August 8, 2025
