A frozen food product sold at Costco is being recalled after concerns emerged about a potential salmonella contamination linked to an ingredient used in its production. The recall affects specific batches ofMotor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread sold in single-pack and two-pack formats.

Customers who purchased the affected products between February and May have been advised not to consume them. Costco and the manufacturer have stated that no illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled items have been reported.

The recall was announced by Champion Foods LLC, which said it had been informed that a milk powder supplier had initiated a separate recall because of a potential salmonella concern. According to the company, the ingredient was used indirectly through a seasoning blend incorporated into the product’s five-cheese sauce mixture.

Costco has contacted members whose purchase records indicate they may have bought the affected products. The retailer has instructed customers to return any recalled items to a local warehouse for a full refund.

Recall Linked to Milk Powder Used in Seasoning Blend

Champion Foods said the issue originated with recalled milk powder supplied to a third-party manufacturer. According to the company, that manufacturer produces a seasoning blend that is later used in thefive-cheese sauce mixture found in Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread.

The recall applies to both single-pack and two-pack versions of the frozen product. The affected single-pack item carries UPC code 8 70375 00511 1 and includes sell-by dates ranging from 4 February 2027 through 21 April 2027.

The affected two-pack item carries UPC code 8 70375 00509 8 and includes sell-by dates of 3 February 2027, 4 February 2027, 24 February 2027, 25 February 2027, 10 March 2027, 11 March 2027, 18 March 2027 and 25 March 2027.

Champion Foods stated that routine testing carried out by the seasoning blend manufacturer before the ingredient was used in production found the tested batches to be negative for salmonella. Even so, the company said it decided to proceed with a voluntary recall as a precautionary measure for consumers.

According to the information released byChampion Foods, the decision was made despite the negative test results because of the potential contamination concern associated with the supplier’s recalled milk powder.

Costco Advises Customers to Return Affected Products

Costco has issued notices to members who purchased the recalled cheese bread between 6 February and 29 May. According to the retailer’s communication, customers should not consume the product and should instead return it for a refund.

The company said its records indicate that either the member or an add-on member on the account may have purchased one of the affected items during the specified period. Costco also noted that no illnesses or injuries connected to the recalled products had been reported at the time of the notice. That information aligns with statements released by Champion Foods regarding the recall.

The concern centres on salmonella, which theUS Food and Drug Administration describes as an organism capable of causing serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, older adults, frail individuals and people with weakened immune systems. According to the FDA, symptoms in otherwise healthy people may include fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Customers who possess products matching the listed UPC codes and sell-by dates have been advised to stop using them and return them to Costco for a full refund.
