Cotswold’s village issues £45,000 in parking fines due to overtourism

  • Bibury, a popular Cotswolds village, is experiencing a "nightmare" for residents due to overtourism and associated parking problems.
  • Gloucestershire County Council significantly increased parking enforcement, issuing 651 penalty charge notices in 2025, a sharp rise from 28 in 2019.
  • The fines generated up to £45,570, but this sum does not cover the £4,000 monthly cost of enforcement.
  • To manage parking and cover costs, pay and display parking will be introduced for 24 on-street spaces, projected to generate up to £218,880 annually.
