Could a supermarket food price cap help with the cost of living?

Supermarkets are reportedly being asked to limit food prices, which could see the prices of essential groceries such as eggs, bread and milk, frozen. In return, the government would ease some regulations, the Financial Times reports.

The Independent spoke to shoppers to see what they think, as many commented on the “noticeable” price increases they have seen in their weekly food shops.

A Treasury minister has denied the reports, though reiterated that they are focused on “helping keep costs down for families”.
