- Count Binface has confirmed that he will run against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election.
- The by-election, which was triggered by Mr Farage’s resignation as an MP on Tuesday over accusations regarding his funding, has been condemned as a “political tantrum” by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
- Labour, the Tories, the Lib Dems, the Greens and Restore Britain are all boycotting the by-election, leaving Count Binface and independent candidates the only barriers to Mr Farage rejoining Parliament.
- Count Binface, the creation of comedian Jonathan David Harvey, posted on X: “I will be a unity candidate and pledge to build at least one affordable house.”
- The novelty candidate last stood in the Makerfield by-election won by would-be prime minister Andy Burnham, receiving 0.2 per cent of the vote.
