Kota Kinabalu: Keeping girls in school is one of the effective ways to prevent child marriages. Girls who complete secondary education are less likely to get married before the age of 18 or have children during their teenage years.
“Child marriage is a social problem that needs to be urgently addressed as it negatively impacts the family institution and has devastating consequences for society as a whole,” said Central KDCA Women’s Council Representative, Priscilla Ruth Marcus.
Underage marriage is widely recognised in international human rights agreements as a harmful practice which robs girls of their childhood and threatens their lives and health.
