
LAHAD DATU: Police detained three people including a couple who were suspected of being part of a drug trafficking syndicate and seized syabu worth RM17,000.
District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the trio were detained in two separate operations under the Op Tapis conducted by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (BSJND).
The first suspect, a 58-year-old local man was detained following an operation at Kampung Sepadulang on Friday.

The case would be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952. Check on the suspect also found that he had two previous records under Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952.
“Acting on information from the first arrest, a police team from the BSJND has carried out a follow-up action and raided a house at Jalan SM Sains, Batu 8.
“The operation led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man and his 34-year-old wife as well as the discovery of 157.54 grammes of syabu worth RM17,329.40,” he said.
Dzulbaharin said the team also seized some other items including a vehicle, a television, a mobile phone, cash and several tools believed used in the drug trafficking activities.
He said urine tests conducted on both suspects found that the husband tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine while the wife tested negative.
The three suspects are currently in their custody for further investigation under Section 39 and Section 12(2) of DDA 1952.
Lahad Datu police called on the people to convey information on drug-related and criminal activities to the Police to ensure the safety and well-being of the community in this district.
