A couple and their son were seriously injured when the wall of their room collapsed following an explosion, suspected to have been caused by the ignition of LPG that had accumulated due to an overnight leak.
The incident occurred in a locality in Jamalpur. The victims were identified as Vinod Kumar, his wife, and their son.
They were initially taken to ESIC Hospital, Ludhiana, and later shifted to a multispecialty hospital for further treatment.
DSP Inderjit Singh Boparai said police teams led by Jamalpur SHO Parmod Raj launched a rescue operation immediately after receiving information about the blast around 5 am.
While the exact sequence of events is yet to be ascertained, preliminary information suggests the blast was caused by cooking gas that had accumulated overnight due to a leak and ignited in the morning. Police said using the room as a kitchen was a major factor in the incident. Household goods were also damaged in the fire.
Further investigation is being conducted by a team led by SHO Parmod Raj, Boparai added.
