PETALING JAYA: A couple from China has been fined RM5,000 each after pleading guilty to causing annoyance to others at KLIA Terminal 2 on Feb 9.
Magistrate Bukhori Ruslan meted out the sentence on Xu Jianfeng, 27, and his wife, Shi Qian, 28 after they pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read out in Mandarin by an interpreter, Bernama reported.

According to the charge sheet, Xu and Shi, who were at Gate Q5 of the terminal, deliberately caused a disturbance by engaging in obscene behaviour in a public place by removing their clothing.

Read more The charge was framed under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of three months’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Earlier, their lawyer, Chew Sin Yee, appealed for a minimum fine, saying that they had shown remorse for their actions and apologised.

However, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Faraheen Yahya argued that a severe punishment was necessary as a lesson to maintain decorum and to deter indecent acts in public that cause distress.
