KOTA KINABALU: A man and his wife sustained injuries when the first-floor platform of a four-storey building in Segama collapsed on Friday night.

Wang Wei, 55, suffered a fractured left leg, while her husband, Yu Ping An, 58, sustained minor injuries in the incident at about 7.50pm.

The couple was assisting their son at He Wei Ju, a Chinese-operated halal restaurant occupying the ground and first floors, when the platform gave way.

Most patrons had left after breaking fast, preventing a larger tragedy as debris crashed onto the eatery below.

Firefighters arrived within minutes, evacuating occupants and confirming no further immediate danger before concluding operations at 9.38pm.
