The High Court has granted two MRSM Sungai Besar academics permission to serve a defamation writ against actress Rita Rudaini via alternative methods after attempts failed.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has granted an application to serve a writ of summons against actress Rita Rudaini by way of substituted service.

The application was filed by two academics heading the Badan Pemuafakatan Pendidikan Mara Malaysia (Muafakat) of MRSM Sungai Besar.

The plaintiffs are MRSM Sungai Besar Muafakat chairman Prof Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor and deputy chairman Dr Saidah Haris @ Harith.

Their counsel, Datuk Adnan Seman, said the court granted the application as two court documents could not be served at Rita’s last known address.

“The plaintiffs then attempted to serve the court documents on her via WhatsApp, but no Notice of Appearance was filed in court,” he said.

Adnan said the court granted the plaintiffs one month to effect this substituted service.

Case management has been set for Feb 26.

The plaintiffs filed the suit against Rita on Dec 6 last year.

They claim she published several defamatory posts referring to them via her Instagram account and WhatsApp status.

The posts allegedly include references to the ‘prof kangkung’ controversy surrounding the Muafakat leadership.

The plaintiffs assert these statements are false and constitute defamation.

They allege the statements were made with malice to damage their reputations.
