THE Magistrate’s Court in Petaling Jaya today fixed 16 January for a review of the psychiatric report in the case of a 14-year-old boy accused of murdering a 16-year-old schoolgirl at a Bandar Utama secondary school last October.

Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal made the decision after allowing the defence team’s request during proceedings.

According to defence counsel Kitson Foong, the juvenile is still undergoing psychiatric treatment and assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.

“This will be the final date, so in the meantime, all necessary evaluations by Hospital Bahagia—including interviews with family members, documentation review, and evidence assessment—will be completed with assistance from the investigating officer,” Foong told reporters outside the court.

He added that the accused did not need to be present as he continues his treatment and evaluation, while representatives present included the Deputy Public Prosecutor, the defence counsel, a lawyer for the victim’s family, a monitoring lawyer, and SUHAKAM officials.

Foong said the juvenile was responding positively to treatment and making good progress in his recovery. “To my knowledge, he is receiving treatment and responding well.

The recovery process is going positively, and he is being treated and investigated regarding the incident. The total evaluation period is three months,” he explained.

The prosecution is being handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syed Ahmed Khabir Abdul Rahman. During the first mention, the charge was read in Mandarin before Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal in a closed proceeding, as the accused is a juvenile.

No plea was recorded, as a murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code must be tried in the High Court.

The alleged murder took place on 14 October last year in a girls’ toilet at the school, between 9.20 am and 9.35 am, when the 14-year-old is accused of killing the 16-year-old victim. - December 19, 2025
