
Kota Kinabalu: The Executive Committee of the Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah), led by its Chairman, Datuk Ir. Peter Lajumin, recently paid a courtesy call to the Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid.
Both sides exchanged valuable and relevant information with regard to the progress of implementation of renewable energy (RE) projects in Sabah. Sabah is known to have viable resources of RE such as small hydro, solar, biomass and biogas.
In addition to some grid-connected RE projects, there are also some micro RE projects in remote off-grid areas.
During the visit, Datuk Ir. Nasser requested REASabah to create and disseminate the awareness for Energy Efficiency among the public in an effort to promote Demand Side Management to keep the maximum load demand at manageable optimal levels, which in turn would result in considerable savings in their monthly electricity bills.

Datuk Ir. Nasser stated that ECoS has prepared a detailed Roadmap for Energy Development in Sabah up to 2050. It is expected to be launched in a few months’ time.
Datuk Ir. Lajumin offered REASabah’s strong support for the measures and steps being undertaken by ECoS to regulate and strengthen the gas and electricity supply industries in Sabah and Labuan.
