In our November issue, we invite five Malaysian artists to interpret the theme of “hope” through their art. In the midst of our current social climate, we explore how art can be more than a cultural tool — it is also a medium of communication that can inspire change and instil hope within our community.

If you’re familiar with Love Limzy at all, you’ll know that her artwork and flowers go hand in hand. Almost all her pieces embrace a touch of floral magic. “My early works combined watercolour of fashion gowns with real flower petals,” she tells Lifestyle Asia about her own art style. “I’ve always been fascinated by the fragility and beauty of flowers, and how something so simple and delicate can also be powerful. I began blending real florals with watercolour illustrations, letting both mediums speak to each other. My process is often quick but meditative: sketching the figure, painting in soft layers, then composing the florals by hand, balancing colour, texture, and emotion. And lastly, I capture the moment and composition with a camera when the flowers stay the freshest. What began as a playful experiment soon became my artistic signature.”

Limzy’s journey with art started in Singapore, after she studied Fine Arts at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). “I worked as a children’s art teacher, and later at an art gallery,” she adds. “Concurrently it was the early days of Instagram, around 2012-13, and I started sharing my illustrations online as a personal creative outlet, never imagining it would grow into a full-time career. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with many local and international brands. And after gaining the confidence in sustaining my art career monetarily, I decided to transition from a solo artist to a group of artisans at my creative studio company Little Luna Studio.”

For Limzy, being an artist has been a journey of learning and unlearning. “I started out painting for joy and beauty, but along the way I realised I was also painting stories, of women, of nature, and of my own emotions,” she shares. “When I pivoted from a solo artist to a team of artisans at Little Luna Studio, it gave me a long-term purpose that was even bigger than myself, knowing that me being an artist and creative director gave hope and possibilities to the local art scene. I also worked super hard during my 20s to early 30s.”

Growing up, Limzy’s art peers were few and far between. Full-time artists are rare, especially where we live, and thus pursuing the path felt like something uncertain. But now that Limzy herself is fully immersed in the field, she has ultimately become the role model that she was perhaps looking for in her youth. “Just by living and working as an artist, I hope to show younger creatives that it is possible to build a meaningful and sustainable career through art; that passion and purpose can coexist, and you can lead a very fulfilling and wholesome life choice even if it doesn’t look the same as many others around you,” she says. “If my journey gives even one person the courage to follow their artistic dream, that, to me, is already a form of change and hope.”

Eventually, motherhood also made her shift her own perspectives and priorities. “I’ve also learned to slow down again, to find time for other important things in life such as family,” she muses. “Hence, growth for me isn’t always linear. Some days you bloom like a flower, when it’s your time to shine, and some days you get back to your roots to work on the slow, hard and unsung things.”

Limzy’s artwork for Lifestyle Asia’s November issue, titled Stronger Together, is a bright and vivid take on hope. A group of seven women poised closely together, with flowers blooming from their heads. “My piece was inspired by the quiet, unspoken strength of women, and how we find hope through each other,” she explicates. “The figures are intertwined, symbolising unity and empathy, while flowers represent resilience that withstands time. I chose shades of pink and violet to express warmth, compassion, and collective energy. To me, hope isn’t loud; it’s an internal positive strength that grows gently when we inspire and lift one another up.”
