Selangor has experienced a 36% rise in COVID-19 cases during Epidemiological Week 24 of 2025, recording 1,082 infections compared to 795 cases the week before. However, health authorities have confirmed that the recent increase remains within manageable levels and below the alert threshold set based on past trends from 2022 to 2024.

The surge has not led to any reported fatalities, according to State Public Health and Environment Exco Jamaliah Jamaluddin. From Week 1 to Week 24 this year, Selangor has logged a total of 7,582 COVID-19 cases. This marks a significant decline from the same period in 2024, which saw 18,231 reported infections. Despite the recent uptick, the overall figures reflect a downward trend compared to previous years.

Among Selangor’s districts, Petaling reported the highest number of cases with 2,475, followed by Hulu Langat (1,435), Klang (974), Gombak (927), Sepang (615), Kuala Selangor (499), Kuala Langat (372), Hulu Selangor (148), and Sabak Bernam (137). These figures suggest that more densely populated urban districts remain the most affected.

Adults aged between 31 and 59 continue to make up the largest proportion of COVID-19 patients, accounting for 44% of total cases. This age group is followed by individuals aged 18 to 30 at 27%, and children aged one to six, who comprise around 9% of the cases. Health officials suggest that this pattern is likely due to increased mobility and workplace exposure among the adult population.

Out of the 7,582 individuals screened for COVID-19 this year, 353 required hospital treatment. One serious case involved a pregnant woman who was also diagnosed with dengue; she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but later moved to a regular ward on June 17 as her condition improved.

Health authorities have advised the public not to take the declining trend for granted and to continue observing safety measures, particularly with the emergence of new sub-variants in some regions. The state government reassured that close monitoring is ongoing and resources are in place should the situation escalate.

For now, while the increase in cases has raised concern, the absence of deaths and a relatively low hospitalisation rate offer some reassurance that the situation remains under control.
