Recently, the World Health Organization deemed Covid-19 to be no longer a global health emergency.

According to CNN, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who spoke on the pandemic during the organization's 15th conference on Covid-19 on Thursday, the proclamation of a public health emergency of international significance, or PHEIC, should end.

"For more than a year, the pandemic has been on a downward trend," Tedros noted. "The emergency committee met for the fifteenth time yesterday, and they suggested that I declare the international public health emergency over ... I agree with that recommendation," Tedros added.

In January 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak as a global public health emergency, around six weeks before it was recognized as a pandemic.

A PHEIC establishes an agreement between nations to follow the WHO's guidelines for handling the disaster. Each nation independently declares a public health emergency, which has legal force. They are used by nations to mobilize resources and suspend regulations in order to diffuse crises.

On May 11, the Covid-19 public health emergency in the US will end.

According to WHO officials, Covid-19 is still a hazard to world health but is now spreading more slowly and is developing.

Ryan explained, "So, we fully anticipate this virus will continue to spread, but this is the history of pandemics. "Pandemics often cease when the next pandemic starts. I realize that's a horrible concept, but that's how pandemics have historically been.

According to Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO's Covid-19  head of its emerging diseases program, the sickness is "here to stay" and the coronavirus that causes it is not going away anytime soon.
