CPS dealing with more rape cases than ever

  • Police recorded a record 74,000 rape offences in 2025, marking the highest number since data collection began in 2002/3.
  • The Crown Prosecution Service is handling more rape cases than in the last decade, with charges for rape increasing by 29 per cent in the year ending December 2025.

  • Conversely, knife crime levels have significantly fallen, with homicides involving a knife or sharp instrument down 21 per cent and overall knife crime dropping by 10 per cent in 2025.
