A coal-handling crane collapsed at the Tanjung Bin Power Plant in Johor, killing two workers and injuring three others.

JOHOR BAHRU: A coal-handling crane at the Tanjung Bin Power Plant near Kukup, Pontian, collapsed today, killing two workers and injuring three others.

Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue Station chief Mahadir Mamat said Muhammad Alfarid Ahmad, 19, and Muhammad Amaluddin Hisamudin, 22, died in the incident which occurred at about 1 pm.

He said the victims were retrieved from beneath the rubble at about 3 pm, and their bodies were handed over to the police for further action.

“The three injured men were taken to Pontian Hospital,” he said in a statement.

He added that the collapse also triggered a small fire, which was successfully contained and extinguished with assistance from the Malakoff Emergency Response Team (ERT). – Bernama
