Under the ‘Nai Soch, Naya Shehar, Swachh Haryana Abhiyan’ being run by the Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), a waste-to-art competition was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Govindpura village, in Yamunanagar.

Students enthusiastically participated in the programme, creating decorative items, useful products and attractive models from waste and discarded materials. The event was organised on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad.

According to officials, the competition aimed to encourage students to contribute to environmental protection by reusing old and discarded items in innovative ways. The artworks prepared by the students drew appreciation for their creativity.

Students made paintings based on themes such as environmental protection, waste segregation, cleanliness, reduce-reuse-recycle and a plastic-free city. Through colours and creative expression, the children conveyed the message of a clean and green city. Many students also created inspirational artworks promoting cleanliness and proper waste management.

Akash Kumar and Gagan, experts from the Municipal Corporation’s Swachh Bharat Mission Urban team, sensitised students about segregating dry and wet waste, avoiding single-use plastic and maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.

“Cleanliness is not just a campaign, but the responsibility of every citizen. The main objective of the programme was to nurture creativity among students while strengthening their sense of responsibility towards cleanliness and environmental protection,” said Akash Kumar.

He added that the school staff and students extended full cooperation in making the campaign successful.

The school principal expressed gratitude to the municipal corporation team and urged that such activities be organised regularly in the future to enhance students’ awareness and knowledge.
