Music. A certain element people need in their lives. Music for me is an important life for me. I love music so much that I play the guitar and am learning to play the piano, too.

I've written a few film scores, but still have that dream of writing some songs of mine.

But this song, My Sacrifice, has a place in my heart like no other song. It's safe to say that we all have that one song we always listen to no matter what.

Remember the times on MTV were showing all of the music videos from back in the day? The likes of Green Day, Linkin Park, Creed and many more bands play on MTV. It was one of the simplest moments of my life.

I remember this song came out in 2001 when I would be two years old at the time. I remember the first time I listened to this song was from MTV, around the age of three or four years old. When listening to a song from last time, you wouldn't understand the sentimental value of the song. I would always hear it without fail from MTV and thanks to me having an older brother, safe to say I was inspired by his music taste.

Arguably, the 2000s was probably one of the best eras of music - check out MTV's article about it, it gave birth to new genres and artists who made their name in that era and safe to say that era just defined my childhood growing up.

As normal, some of the songs we listen to when we are younger, we tend to just forget about a song and only would hear about it 20 years later. I think the closest thing we have to a time machine would be YouTube. The days of the 4:3 formats and music videos just look simple.

It took me almost 20 years for my love of this song to be reacquainted again. It's like an old friend we've not seen ever since kindergarten, it's just like we've moved on with life and wanted to catch up with each other.

The intro of the song could've been so relatable:

Feels like forever - lyrics provided by Musixmatch.

A simple yet elegant opening to a song which can just sum up my first reaction to hearing this song again. It's one of them songs that I thought I would never hear, but I'm glad I did. It took me a while to recognise the song until the chorus:

My Sacrifice - lyrics provided by Musixmatch.

Once I heard the chorus, I felt like I was going back 20 years in time.

My Sacrifice to me is that perfect song if I'm feeling happy, sad, heartbroken or anything. The song focuses on the dark moments in life and trying to reconnect with yourself again. The song's inspiration was from how Scott Stapp, the lead singer of Creed, said how he's trying to get back into life. He said also how he was suffering from abuse and alcoholism, based on Kerrang.

I've had moments in life where I felt like things weren't going my way, this song was the perfect song for me, even if I just needed something to relax to and unwind to.

I wish that I had been born 10 years earlier so I would have experienced Creed at its peak, but I'm just glad that I still listened to their songs as a grown adult and some of their songs as a kid. It makes me reminisce about the times back in the 2000s. My only regret would be not seeing Creed live, but their legacy of music will still live on.

But what I'm grateful for is, for my older brother listening to all these bands. I was exposed to bands such as Bon Jovi, Fort Minor, Linkin Park, Green Day, Slipknot, Snow Patrol, etc.

Before I finish and let you guys reminisce about the good old days, let me give you some songs from the 2000s you probably forgot about: The Reason - Hoobastank, Apologize - One Republic, Complicated - Avril Lavigne, Fort Minor - Where'd You Go. Feeling old yet? I don't blame you.

If you had to listen to one song for the rest of your life, what song would that be?
