
LAHAD DATU: A 12-year-old boy was found dead after he was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Tegupi here on Monday.
The incident is understood to have occurred at about 11am while the victim was in the river.
Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said the department received a distress call via 999 at 12.06pm and dispatched a team to the scene, about 140 kilometres from the station, to conduct a search and rescue operation.
He said police had already found the victim before the Fire and Rescue team arrived, and he was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries to his left foot and the back of his waist, believed to have been caused by the crocodile.
Sumsoa said the victim's body was handed over to police for further action before the operation was called off after firefighters confirmed there were no further dangers at the scene.
