Cross-party minister Lord John Horam dies aged 87

  • Lord John Horam, a former minister who served in both Labour and Conservative governments, has died at the age of 87.
  • He died at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, after sustaining a fall on his way home from the House of Lords on 2 July.
  • Lord Horam had a distinguished political career, representing three parties – Labour, the Social Democratic Party, and the Conservatives – as an MP for Gateshead and Orpington.
  • He was created a working life peer in 2013, becoming Baron Horam of Grimsargh, and advocated for issues such as increased housing and a living wage in the House of Lords.
  • Lord Horam is survived by his wife Judith and stepsons Fraser and Lincoln Jopp, the latter of whom is a Conservative MP.
