A disturbing video of a Malaysian man harming wildlife has sparked widespread outrage online, with netizens condemning his cruel actions. The man was caught preparing and throwing poison-laced ice cream to wild monkeys in what he claimed was an attempt to eliminate them as a “nuisance.”

Poisonous Bait for Wildlife

In a now-viral clip reported by Harian Metro, the man demonstrates how he uses poison, allegedly imported from Thailand, to create toxic bait. He inserts the poison into bananas and offers them to monkeys in the area. In another video, he takes the cruelty further by mixing poison with ice cream and throwing it at a group of monkeys near a residential area.

The man justified his actions by claiming the poison could also be used to kill wild boars and reduce the problems caused by these animals for local residents. However, his actions have drawn intense criticism, with many calling them inhumane and unnecessary.

Authorities Condemn the Act

Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, Director-General of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) Peninsular Malaysia, expressed his deep concern over the incident. He strongly condemned the man’s actions, labeling them as a cruel and illegal method to deal with wildlife conflicts.

Under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716), intentionally harming or poisoning protected wildlife is a punishable offense in Malaysia. The department has urged the public to avoid taking matters into their own hands when dealing with wildlife disturbances. Instead, they recommend seeking professional help or contacting authorities for assistance.

Call for Public Action

Perhilitan has called on Malaysians to report any acts of cruelty against wildlife and to promote coexistence with nature. They stressed the importance of addressing wildlife-related issues responsibly and within the boundaries of the law.

Anyone who encounters wildlife conflicts or witnesses acts of cruelty is encouraged to contact Perhilitan’s hotline at 1-800-88-5151 for guidance and support.

This shocking case serves as a reminder of the importance of treating wildlife with respect and compassion. Resolving human-animal conflicts through cruel and unlawful means not only harms ecosystems but also violates the principles of ethical coexistence.
