Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has called for "perspective" after victory over Brentford.
Hodgson went into the game amid speculation about his job.
He said afterwards: We, the coaching staff, never lost belief in the team, and [belief] that this team is a good team, and will do well, and are certainly not relegation candidates.
But, on the other hand you are a relegation candidate when you start slipping down the table and there's not many points between you and the teams below you
The people who matter to me in terms of their reflecting on our performances are the players and people around the club as well. That's the most important thing.
When you're not getting points or when you're slipping down the table, I'm afraid you're going to come in for negative criticism. That's the way it is. But we have to keep some sort of balance and perspective about it.
But I'm happy today: happy for the players, happy for the club, and happy for the fans, because it's much nicer to go into the New Year on a victory, rather than perhaps another draw or even worse a defeat, which would've lengthened that spell when we weren't getting points."
