Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira called for more aggression from his players after defeat to Brighton.
Solly March's goal proved decisive for the Seagulls and punished a Palace side who spurned three good chances to take control of the game in the opening 10 minutes.
Vieira said, "We started the game well. We were disciplined, had a really good approach and were aggressive, winning the ball high up the field but our decision making again wasn't the best. We created those clear chances and didn't score so it is a difficult period because our organisation was good.
"We tried to get back but we couldn't score. We have to believe in the players we have and keep calm and keep working. It is important to create those opportunities and we have been. The mindset of our players has to change and we have to be more aggressive going forward and take our chances. The players need to understand those opportunities are important."
On debutant goalkeeper Joe Whitworth, he added: "We did not have any doubt about his personality or quality. He has been working through with the academy and our goalkeeping coach did not have any doubt about his ability to play today. He loves the football club and this is what Crystal Palace is about. Today he had a good game."
