Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira refused to be drawn on reports linking them with a fresh move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
The midfielder enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Selhurst Park last time out, breaking into the England squad ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar.
"It is difficult to talk about players who are not at the football club," said Vieira.
"Conor is a Chelsea player. Until Chelsea say otherwise, there is no point in thinking about what may not even be possible. People are working on improving the squad.
"We need players, we are short. But if we can't get them, I'm happy with the players we have."
