The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) recently detained three family members suspected of involvement with the Millah Abraham sect, a group declared deviant by local authorities. Ahmad Zaki Hamzah, the head of the JHEAINS Enforcement Division Operations Unit, announced the arrests, which included a couple in their 40s and their 16-year-old son, who is currently not attending school.

The couple was apprehended around 6 p.m. at Felda Sungai Kelamah in Tampin, while their son was detained at Felda Palong 3, their original residence. "The couple had been renting a house in Felda Sungai Kelamah for the past six months, while their son remained living at Felda Palong 3. Although no illegal activities were observed at the time of the arrests, our investigations confirmed their involvement with the sect," Ahmad Zaki stated. "We confiscated 15 items, including notebooks, a laptop, and mobile phones. In 2019, the Negeri Sembilan Mufti Department issued a fatwa declaring these teachings contradictory to Islamic law."

Intelligence reports and public tips indicated that they had been operating for more than a year.

The Millah Abraham sect's beliefs include the recognition of a new prophet, a different version of the 'syahadah' (Islamic declaration of faith), and attempts to merge elements of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The sect also considers meat slaughtered by non-followers to be forbidden. "They operated covertly, often meeting in restaurants or cafes. We suspect their members are spread not only within this state but across the country, including among professionals. They follow a leader whom they hold in high regard," Ahmad Zaki added.

The three individuals have been detained under Section 52 of the Negeri Sembilan Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992 for promoting questionable teachings.

This operation follows a similar raid on the Millah Abraham sect in Kampung Sri Repah in 2019. Authorities expect more arrests as the investigation continues.

Ahmad Zaki urged Muslims seeking religious knowledge to turn to accredited teachers from relevant authorities, such as the Negeri Sembilan Mufti Department, to avoid confusion and misguidance.

"In this digital age, accessing religious information is easy. If there are any doubts, Muslims should consult the Mufti Department or JHEAINS for verification. We appreciate the interest in learning about Islam, but it is crucial to ensure the information is accurate to prevent being led astray," he emphasized.

Ahmad Zaki stressed the importance of verifying religious information with the right sources. "With the digital age making it easy to access all kinds of information, it's vital to consult the Mufti Department or JHEAINS if there are any doubts. We value the enthusiasm for learning about Islam, but ensuring the information's accuracy is crucial to avoid being misled," he reiterated.
