Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said they are in the process of looking at the ordinances to see where they can regulate the operations of Airbnb.
“Possibly making it so that an Airbnb cannot be operated in a condominium or a private housing area. It has to be a business entity, and for business entity the rates will be a bit different,” he said.
He said this to the media when asked whether his Ministry will come up with new legislations to regulate Airbnb operations following the incident where tourists from China found a hidden camera inside a socket in their Airbnb.
Although the permit for Airbnb has nothing to do with his Ministry, Joachim said as part of the Government he is very concerned about the incident.
