Kota Kinabalu: The State Customs Department seized RM4.03 million worth of contraband cigarettes plus taxes from a house in Luyang, here, Wednesday.
District enforcers with support from the Customs Operational Battle Force Response Assault (Cobra) team found 5.98 million sticks of cigarettes in the 7pm raid.
Sabah Royal Malaysian Customs Deputy Director Mohd Nasir Deraman said a 29-year-old local man was apprehended for further investigations under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
“The modus operandi was concealing the contraband in the house used as a depot in a bid to evade authorities,” he told a press conference today.
