Royal Malaysian Customs foils a smuggling attempt, seizing 3.3kg of heroin worth RM266,000 concealed inside a water hose reel at KLIA Terminal 2.
PUTRAJAYA: Royal Malaysian Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.3 kilogrammes of heroin worth nearly RM266,000 through Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2.
The seizure was made last February following a joint inspection by Customs enforcement and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
A Swiss national arriving from a Southeast Asian country was stopped at the arrival hall on Feb 24.
KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said a scan of a water hose reel box the man was carrying revealed suspicious images.
“A thorough inspection by the Customs enforcement team uncovered black packages concealed inside the water hose reel, believed to contain heroin,” he said in a statement.
The suspect and the seized items were subsequently handed over to the KLIA Customs Enforcement Division for further investigation.
Zulkifli confirmed the heroin is listed under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect has been charged in court in connection with the seizure.
