THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) remains on track to achieving its 2026 revenue target, with collections having hit P664.78 billion as of end-August.
The eight-month tally surpassed the P659.31 billion goal for the period and was also higher than the P621.39 billion recorded in January-August last year.
“The sustained surplus was achieved despite weather disturbances that resulted in work suspensions and disruptions in trade and government operations in several parts of the country,” Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said in a statement on Monday.
“The impact was felt across nearly two weeks of disrupted work, while the unloading and processing of shipments in several ports were likewise stalled due to heavy rains, affecting the timely movement of cargo and related Customs activities,” he noted.
August collections still topped the year-earlier result, however, totaling P81.361 billion and 5.1 percent higher than the P77.346 billion seen in the same month last year.
The Development Budget Coordination Committee has raised Customs’ revenue collection target for this year to P1.011 trillion from P1.003 trillion.
Nepomuceno said the bureau “remains focused on sustaining strong revenue performance through improved compliance, accurate valuation and declaration, enhanced enforcement efforts, and close collaboration with the trading community.”
“With four months remaining in 2026, the BOC will continue to build on its year-to-date surplus while advancing reforms that enhance revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade, and deliver more efficient and responsive Customs services.”
