DA pushes ‘White Revolution’ technologies

IN a bid to revolutionize the country’s vegetable farming industry, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 2 (DA-RFO2) has awarded P12.2 million worth of “White Revolution” technologies to Sanguit Upland Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (SUFMPC) in Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya.

The move is part of the upscaling of White Revolution technologies in cultivating crops in the Philippines.

The package includes a range of modern farming technologies, such as drip irrigation worth P1.4 million; packaging house, P4 million; screenhouse, P2.4 million; rain shelter, P3.029 million; multicultivator, P300,000; plastic crates, P81,000; organic fertilizer, P86,800; and highland vegetable seeds, P672,000.

DA-RFO2 Executive Director Rose Mary Aquino said the technologies are expected to improve the cooperative’s vegetable supply chains and increase production, ultimately benefiting the local farmers and the community.

The White Revolution is a strategic initiative led by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. aimed at ensuring a stable and year-round supply of affordable high-value crops. The program focuses on modernizing farming using protected cultivation technologies to combat climate change, reduce imports, and stabilize prices.

Aquino said that Lezach Farm, a recipient of White Revolution Technologies, will serve as a model farm. “Other FCAs can also receive similar interventions if they submit the required documents, particularly a marketing agreement with institutional buyers.”

She added that the White Revolution is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s vegetable farming industry, providing farmers with access to modern technologies and improving their livelihoods.

“As the country continues to face challenges in food production and climate change, initiatives like the White Revolution are crucial in driving innovation and progress in the industry,” Aquino said.

The DA said that the success of the White Revolution will depend on the collaboration and support of various stakeholders, including farmers, government agencies, and private sector partners.

With the right resources and technologies, the department said that Filipino farmers can overcome the challenges of climate change and produce high-quality crops that meet the demands of the market.

“With the support of the government and the private sector, the Philippines can become a leading producer of high-value crops, ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agriculture for generations to come,” Aquino said.
