A 32-year-old dad named Carmelo Gonzalez came home from work one day to a devastating scene: his 11-year-old daughter, Maria, was found strangled to death underneath a bed in their home in Pasadena, Texas.

The horrific discovery was made on Saturday, August 12, and the police were immediately called by a concerned individual who reported that the girl was not breathing. Paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced Maria dead. It was later revealed that she had been sexually assaulted as well as killed. As of now, the police have not identified any suspects and are reaching out to the public for help with their investigation. Carmelo Gonzalez left his apartment at around 10 a.m. that day for work but stayed in touch with his daughter over the phone.

Shortly after leaving, he received a message from Maria, telling him about someone knocking at their front door. Gonzalez advised her not to open the door and proceeded to his workplace. Unfortunately, that was the last communication he had with his daughter. On Tuesday, August 15, Pasadena Police Chief Josh Bruegger shared that Gonzalez called family members who lived in the same apartment complex asking them to check on Maria. However, they were unsuccessful in locating her, leaving her body undiscovered until Gonzalez returned home. Gonzalez began searching for his daughter and eventually found her lifeless body under a bed inside a laundry basket.

The tragic discovery of Maria left him devastated, remarking, "Unfortunately, they left her under the bed in a plastic bag, they left my poor daughter." The official cause of Maria's death was asphyxiation due to strangulation and blunt force head and neck trauma. Further investigation revealed that she had also been sexually assaulted. The police confirmed that there was no evidence of forced entry into the home and currently have no solid leads in the case. Chief Bruegger stated that the father's alibi checked out, making him not a suspect in the investigation. Gonzalez and his daughter had been living in the apartment complex for about three months. Maria's mother resides in Guatemala.

Despite her age, Maria had not yet enrolled in school. She and her family had recently moved from Austin to Pasadena and had previously lived in Florida. Chief Bruegger described the circumstances of the case as brutal, acknowledging the violent nature of the crime. The police have taken DNA samples from some individuals in the apartment complex but are facing challenges in obtaining cooperation.

Chief Bruegger requested any witnesses who might have seen anything on Saturday morning to come forward with information. With great determination, the police are working tirelessly to solve this crime. Chief Bruegger admitted that, as a parent himself, this case is particularly concerning. The apartment complex, located about 13 miles southeast of downtown Houston, is considered a "fairly close-knit community" and is typically peaceful and quiet.
