Kota Kinabalu: The Immigration Department is conducting daily checks at Ramadan bazaars to prevent undocumented foreigners from conducting business at these locations.
Its Director Datuk Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yusof said the ongoing efforts are part of a broader enforcement strategy.
“We are conducting daily inspections at bazaars while continuing other enforcement initiatives like Ops Kutip and Ops Sapu,” she said.
“We are also responding to public tips about illegal immigrants, particularly in squatter settlements,” she added.
She said the Department had arrested 1,143 undocumented immigrants and conducted 21 deportation operations involving 1,382 people.
Approximately 90 per cent of those deported were Filipino nationals.
She said this following a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Thursday.
During the meeting, she introduced herself and discussed immigration performance metrics, matters related to Section 7 of the Immigration Act and the need for a new Immigration Complex to consolidate all departmental divisions under one roof.
