Daim’s wife lodges police report after article from Bloomberg

TOH PUAN Naimah Khalid, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, has lodged a police report over a Bloomberg article about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigations into her husband’s affairs.

In her report, she alleged abuse of power in the highest levels of government.

"I am here today representing my husband. He is unable to travel to the police station to lodge this report himself due to his physical condition.

"Under our Federal Constitution, a sitting prime minister is subject to the law just as everyone else," said Naimah in the report lodged at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters today.

Citing sources, Bloomberg had earlier reported that MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki told agency officials that instructions to investigate Daim, as well as former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his sons, had come from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself.

The Prime Minister's Office has since denied all allegations in the Bloomberg report, while the MACC also denied receiving directives on its investigations.

"It is an open secret that Daim and I have been subjected to politically motivated investigations and trumped-up charges instigated by Anwar Ibrahim, " said Naimah.

She added that Daim is fully prepared to give a statement to the police if necessary.

Na'imah was accompanied by her lawyers Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetaj Singh Sohanpal.

Rajesh said they were calling for a fair and independent probe. - September 30, 2024
