Deputy Commissioner (DC) Preeti has suspended the sarpanch of gram panchayat, Damla of Yamunanagar district over allegations of negligence, procedural irregularities and violation of rules in panchayat-related works.
According to an official order issued by the office of the DC recently, the Sarpanch Gurubakshi misused the panchayat funds and allegedly made Rs 3,7,599 of extra payment for the purchase of street lights installed in the village.
The sarpanch allegedly also got the soil excavated from the panchayat land without taking permission from the mining department.
After taking an action of suspension, the DC marked a regular inquiry of this case to Additional Deputy Commissioner Naveen Ahuja.
According to a complaint made by a villager to the government, the sarpanch made Rs 3,7,599 of extra payment for the purchase of street lights installed in the village.
However, in her reply to the district administration, the sarpanch denied the said allegation and said the street lights were installed as per resolutions of the gram panchayat.
The sarpanch also said the said amount was deposited in the panchayat fund due to administrative pressure.
As per a report of the Yamunanagar’s assistant mining engineer of mines and geology department of February 27, 2026, the soil was excavated to strengthen a public road, but it was excavated without obtaining prior permission from the department.
According to DC’s order the Sarpanch Gurubakshi was immediately suspended from the post under Sections 51 (1) of the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act 1994.
The DC also instructed her not to participate in any proceedings of the panchayat in future until further directions.
The suspended sarpanch has also been directed to hand over all official records and documents in her possession to the panch in majority or gram sachiv immediately.
When contacted over phone, Rampal, husband of the sarpanch, denied to speak on this issue.
