The Chief Inspector of Prisons has called for the closure of Wandsworth prison after terror suspect Daniel Khalife succeeded in escaping by clinging onto a delivery van.
Charlie Taylor said the building was “not a suitable prison” as reports emerge of staff shortages and “chaos” at the Category B jail.
Meanwhile, the Met Police have released the escape route taken by Khalife, as they revealed there had been no confirmed sightings during the nationwide manhunt.
The former soldier was dressed as a chef and was able to get out via the kitchen in what has been called “an orchestrated job” that almost certainly benefitted from “some inside help”.
The route shows that the Bidford van carrying Khalife travelled to and then beyond Wandsworth railway station.
A manhunt is continuing for the 21-year-old and justice minister Alex Chalk on Thursday said “no stone must be left unturned” in figuring out how Khalife escaped as he launched an investigation.
Khalife was being held on remand after he was accused of planting fake bombs at a military base. Airports and ports have since been put on high alert over fears he will try to leave the country.
