Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s up and coming golfer Mohd Danish Danial captured the Under-12 title in the recent MSSM (Malaysia School Sports Council) golf competition held in Labuan.

He carded a three-day total of 242 (79-82-81) to take the crown five shots ahead of Negeri Sembilan’s Azka Azfar Saiful Azhari.

The SK Api-Api student accompanied by his personal coach Jinot Tinggal also helped Sabah to win the team title with teammate Aiqal Darwish Mohd Zain with their combined 532 points total followed by Kedah with 538 points.

Sabah Sports Council coach Donnie Intung when contacted said the youngster has the potential to go far in the sport. “I have been following his progress since he was six. He has excelled in many junior tournaments such as in the SportExcel Malaysian Junior Golf Circuit as well as the Kids Golf World Championship Malaysia organised by US Kids Golf.

“He has represented the State in the MSSM tournament since he was eight and I hope his recent success will inspire more juniors and lead to more support from the government and private sectors,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 12-member team was led by Jius Usiu who is also the State golf development technical chairman.
