A strong buzz has surrounded the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11, with talk that DAP plans to field Pang Sock Tao, press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, as its candidate. Although this remains unconfirmed, a source from Pakatan Harapan revealed to FMT that Pang could be the chosen nominee.

Efforts to confirm the rumours with Pang have not been successful so far, but MalaysiaGazette reported that Minister Nga was tight-lipped on the issue, suggesting the public wait for an official announcement later.

Nga, who serves as a vice-chairman of DAP, made waves earlier by announcing an RM5.21 million allocation for Hulu Selangor residents, including Kuala Kubu Baharu town. However, he denied that the funds were linked to the by-election, claiming the area was chosen for its “auspicious feng shui.”

This explanation drew criticism from the electoral reform group Bersih, which argued that the announcement contradicted the principles of fair and ethical competition. Muda’s Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also took a swipe at Nga's comment, suggesting the minister visit his own constituency to explore its “good feng shui.”

Meanwhile, PH's by-election director Ng Sze Han stated that DAP had shortlisted 10 potential candidates for the contest, though no final decision has been made.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat became vacant following the death of long-serving assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21, due to cancer. Nominations for the by-election are scheduled for this Saturday.

DAP's decision on its candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election remains the subject of intense speculation. The outcome of the election could be crucial for the party, as it seeks to strengthen its hold in the Selangor state assembly.

The by-election director for Pakatan Harapan, Ng Sze Han, has emphasized the importance of finding a strong candidate to continue Lee Kee Hiong's legacy in the constituency. Lee was a well-respected figure in Kuala Kubu Baharu and his death left a void that the party aims to fill with a capable representative.

While the decision on the candidate has yet to be confirmed, all eyes are on DAP's next move, as the nomination period approaches. The by-election is expected to be a closely watched contest, with potential implications for both DAP and its rivals.

For the residents of Kuala Kubu Baharu, the by-election is an opportunity to choose a representative who will address their needs and work towards the development of the region. The RM5.21 million allocation announced by Nga Kor Ming may play a role in shaping public opinion, despite his insistence that it is not linked to the by-election.
