KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 — DAP has criticised Perikatan Nasional (PN) for using a caricature mocking Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke during the Ayer Kuning by-election campaign.

New Straits Times reported that DAP deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming said the caricature was not only inappropriate but also showed a lack of political maturity.

“As a political party that prioritises the people’s welfare, we believe political discourse should be grounded in policy, development strategies, and constructive proposals — not in childish personal attacks or the exploitation of religion and race as cheap political capital,” he said in a statement.

Nga added that such depictions distracted from more urgent national concerns, including the potential impact of former US president Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

Berita Harian earlier reported that PN supporters had gathered at the nomination centre this morning carrying banners that mocked government leaders.

The caricatures featured both Anwar and Loke, who also serves as Transport Minister.

Nga said Pakatan Harapan would continue to support Barisan Nasional in the Ayer Kuning by-election to reinforce cooperation within the unity government for the sake of political stability and the development of Perak, in line with the state’s Perak Sejahtera 2030 vision.

“Our country needs constructive politics, not destructive ones,” said Nga, who is also Perak DAP chairman.

The Ayer Kuning by-election will see a three-way contest between BN’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, PN’s Abdul Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s K.S. Bawani.
