THE DAP Special Congress will not put pressure on the stability of the Unity Government, but rather it is an internal process of the party.

Unity Government spokesman, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said that the PH component parties had informed him in advance of their intention to hold the congress.

"They have informed us from the beginning that this is an internal process for DAP to ensure that the decisions reached are followed within their party, so that is a process for DAP in making decisions," he said after attending the Malaysia-Indonesia Arts and Culture Unification Program in the capital, today.

He added that all component parties in the Unity Government understand and fully support the efforts and endeavours undertaken by the current government.

"All component parties in the Unity Government understand and support these efforts and endeavours, including our friends from DAP," he said.

According to Fahmi, the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced several institutional and legal reform efforts, including the separation of the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, as well as limiting the Prime Minister's term of office to 10 years or two terms.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, said that the government's focus this year is not only to ensure that the country's economic position remains strong, including strengthening the value of the ringgit, but also to enhance institutional reform efforts.

The media previously reported that DAP is scheduled to hold a special congress on July 12 to decide whether its leaders should step down from their positions in the unity government, while continuing to support the current administration in Parliament. – February 21, 2026
