DAP will contest 17 seats in the Johor election and defend all 11 Negeri Sembilan seats, says secretary-general Anthony Loke.

PETALING JAYA: DAP has confirmed that it will field candidates in 17 seats in the upcoming Johor State Legislative Assembly election.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the total includes 10 seats the party won in the previous election, four it had previously lost and three additional constituencies it is now targeting.

“We have stated that we will defend all the seats we won in the last election. We secured 10 out of the 14 seats we contested, so we will also contest the four seats we lost previously.

“In addition, we are considering three more seats, bringing the total to 17 seats,” he said.

Loke also confirmed that DAP will defend all 11 of its state assembly seats in Negeri Sembilan.

He said the decision to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was made through consensus among the top leadership of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration.

Loke also criticised former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, who had suggested that the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan assembly was driven by pressure from DAP, describing the claim as baseless.

“To say this is pressure from DAP is completely absurd. All PH parties in Negeri Sembilan, PKR, DAP and Amanah, agreed to the dissolution,” he said.

He added that while there may be intense political competition at state level, it would not affect cooperation within the federal government, which he said continues to function effectively.
