DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the final number of additional seats the party may contest will depend on ongoing negotiations with its Pakatan Harapan (PH) partners.
PETALING JAYA: DAP has confirmed that it will defend all seats currently held by the party in the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, while also seeking to contest several additional constituencies in Johor.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the final number of additional seats the party may contest will depend on ongoing negotiations with its Pakatan Harapan (PH) partners, which are expected to conclude by the end of this week.
He said the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), which met on Thursday night, had agreed on several key matters in preparation for the state polls.
“In view of the dissolution of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assemblies, and with elections required to be held within 60 days from June 1, 2026, the DAP National Congress scheduled for July 12 has been postponed to August 16,” he said in a statement.
Loke said the selection of DAP candidates for the two state elections will be handled by a special committee comprising himself, national chairman Gobind Singh Deo, deputy national chairman Nga Kor Ming, DAP Wanita chief Teo Nie Ching and DAP parliamentary leader Chong Chieng Jen.
On parliamentary matters, Loke said the party supports the tabling of legislation to separate the roles of the Attorney-General and the Public Prosecutor during the Dewan Rakyat sitting beginning on June 22.
“DAP is committed to securing the support of all 40 DAP Members of Parliament and urges all MPs to back this historic constitutional amendment,” he said.
He added that DAP remains committed to advancing the government’s institutional reform agenda and will campaign actively in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan to help secure a Pakatan Harapan victory in the state elections.
