DAP to let delegates decide whether to remain in unity government, says Loke

DAP to let delegates decide whether to remain in unity government, says Loke

DAP will leave the decision on whether the party should remain in the Madani government until the end of the parliamentary term to its delegates, secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said.

Loke said the party’s central executive committee (CEC) had decided to convene a special national congress on Aug 16, where a motion on the matter would be presented to delegates.

He said about 4,000 DAP delegates would be given the mandate to decide the party’s position, stressing that the final decision would not be made by the CEC.

“The decision will be made by the delegates, not the CEC. We will leave it to their wisdom,” Loke said.

The move comes as DAP reviews its political position following the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, where the party suffered losses, including Loke’s defeat in the Chennah state seat.

Loke said the party leadership respected the role of its grassroots representatives in determining DAP’s future direction within the federal administration.

The Madani government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was formed after the 2022 general election through cooperation between Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and other partners. – August 3, 2026
