DAP urges Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to fulfil Pakatan Harapan’s pledge for equal constituency funds and institutionalise allocations through legislation.
PETALING JAYA: DAP has called for equal Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to be allocated to all Members of Parliament, urging the Prime Minister to fulfil Pakatan Harapan’s election pledge and institutionalise the allocations through legislation.
DAP national chairman Gobind Singh Deo said equal allocations were necessary to ensure constituents were not disadvantaged because of their political choices or affiliations.
He said the party had repeatedly conveyed its position to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and hoped the government would take the necessary steps to implement equal funding as soon as possible.
“I commend the Prime Minister for announcing additional direct funds to each parliamentary constituency last week.
“While this will indeed be most helpful, it does not resolve the core issue, which is the commitment to providing equal, non-discriminatory allocations to every MP,” he said in a statement today.
Gobind, who is also Digital Minister, said Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto had expressly pledged to provide equal development allocations to all MPs.
He said withholding equal funding could undermine the democratic mandate of elected representatives and disadvantage constituents based solely on their political affiliations.
DAP also called for legislation to be introduced to institutionalise equal CDF allocations for all MPs.
Gobind said such legislation would remove political discretion from the allocation process, improve transparency and permanently safeguard the rights of voters nationwide.
“I therefore urge the Prime Minister to address the delay and move forward with first providing all MPs with equal allocations, and subsequently enacting legislation that permanently secures equal constituency allocations for every MP in Malaysia,” he said.
