In the aftermath of the audacious escape by 130 illegal immigrants from the Temporary Immigration Depot in Bidor, there have been notable developments. Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh has confirmed that four of the escapees have been recaptured. The apprehended individuals are currently undergoing thorough verification processes by the Immigration Department.
The collective efforts to locate the remaining escapees are in full swing, with a collaborative initiative involving various security agencies such as the police and the General Operations Force (PGA). A dedicated team of 387 members from these agencies has been deployed to track down and bring the fugitives to justice.
The incident unfolded during the previous night when a total of 131 illegal immigrants managed to flee from the male block of the Temporary Immigration Depot in Bidor. Tragically, one individual lost their life in a road accident during the escape. The majority of those who fled, numbering 115, were Rohingya detainees, accompanied by 15 Myanmar nationals and one individual from Bangladesh.
In response to the escape, the Immigration Department swiftly took action by relocating the remaining 435 illegal migrants to six other detention depots across the country. These alternate locations include Machap in Melaka, Lenggeng in Negeri Sembilan, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur, Kemayan in Pahang, and Langkap in Perak.
Emphasizing the department's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of detainees, Ruslin highlighted that those who did not attempt to escape were promptly moved to the alternate depots. This proactive measure reflects the authorities' dedication to managing immigration facilities effectively.
The incident underscores the challenges inherent in overseeing immigration facilities and the imperative for robust security measures to prevent unauthorized departures. As the authorities actively coordinate efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining escapees, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and stringent security protocols within immigration systems. The Immigration Department remains resolute in its pursuit of order and the enforcement of immigration laws to maintain the integrity of the nation's borders.
