SEREMBAN District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the 20-year-old man presented himself at the police station on Sunday after his dashcam footage showed a van driver running a red light and fatally colliding with a motorcyclist.
“A dashcam owner has come forward to assist in the investigation,” Hatta told Sinar Harian on Monday.
“We thank this road user for cooperating and coming forward yesterday. We’ve recorded his statement.”
He also urged other eyewitnesses or members of the public to provide information by contacting the investigating officer, Inspector Tiew Chuan Jie, at 014-9668399 or visiting any nearby police station.
Regarding the suspect, Hatta said the 44-year-old van driver has been remanded for four days beginning Sunday, though initial alcohol and urine screenings came back negative.
“This man is a company van driver; the vehicle is not privately owned,” he added. “With the help of the dashcam footage, we hope to bring charges against him soon.”
The fatal incident occurred at around 12.10am on Saturday. A Toyota Hiace van, driven by the suspect with a 20-year-old female passenger, was travelling from Senawang towards Bahau when it allegedly failed to stop at a red light and collided with a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle approaching from the left.
The motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. - May 5, 2025
