AUSTRALIA-based hyperscale data centre operator AirTrunk is set to significantly deepen its footprint in Malaysia with an additional RM12 billion investment this year, bringing its total committed investment in the country to RM27 billion.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the commitment was conveyed during a courtesy meeting with AirTrunk founder and chief executive Robin Khuda and his delegation.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the progress of the company’s data centre developments in Johor, as well as localisation strategies aimed at increasing participation by Malaysian firms within the data centre value chain.

“This investment commitment is highly welcomed and is believed to further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a competitive, progressive, and highly capable regional digital hub.

“This decision reflects investor confidence, especially among global technology companies, in Malaysia’s advantages as a strategic partner, as the government enhances policies and improves the efficiency of development and operations of data centers,” Anwar said in a post on Facebook today.

The expanded investment is expected to reinforce Malaysia’s position as a competitive digital infrastructure hub in the Asia-Pacific region, amid rising global demand for cloud services and data processing capacity.

The government has been actively promoting the growth of data centres as part of its broader digital economy strategy, with Johor emerging as a key location due to its proximity to Singapore and established industrial ecosystem.

The latest commitment by AirTrunk reflects sustained investor confidence in Malaysia’s policy direction and its ability to support large-scale, high-tech infrastructure projects. - April 30, 2026
